A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy killed a man who entered a jail after firing shots in the parking lot

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A man was shot and killed by a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy Friday morning after he started shooting outside of a local jail and then entered the building, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
At about 8:30 a.m., a 49-year-old David Resmondo began firing in the parking lot of the Monroe County Justice Center in Madisonville in southeastern Tennessee. He then approached the building’s front door, fired again and entered the building, according to the TBI. Once inside, a deputy confronted Resmondo and shot him. He later died at a local hospital. No one else was injured.
Tenth Judicial District Attorney General Shari Tayloe asked the TBI to investigate.
TBI declined to release the name of the deputy involved in the shooting, leaving that decision to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. A message left for the sheriff on Friday afternoon was not immediately returned. TBI did not immediately disclose a possible motive for the shooting by Resmondo. The investigation is ongoing.
